Kaolin

China clay is another name for kaolin. It is soft and white in its natural state and is used to make porcelain. This clay was named after the Kao-ling hill in China, where it had been mined for centuries.

This clay is made of kaolinite mineral and is mixed with 20-35% water to initiate its plastic properties. This mixture can be easily moulded into a variety of shapes, which are retained once the mould pressure is removed. It has very white burning characteristics, making it suitable for whiteware production.
